During the Covid-nineteen pandemic, the ACICIS Law Professional Practicum (LPP) will be offered nearly, with the support of the Australian Government'due south New Colombo Program.

Launched in 2018, this program is designed for undergraduate students, postgraduate coursework students, and early career professionals.

The LPP consists of intensive Indonesian language study at Atma Jaya University, English language language lectures by local legal practitioners and experts in the field of law, and a supervised practicum placement with a local or international legal house, regime authorization or non-government organization (NGO).

The professional person practicum placement offers Australian students the opportunity to collaborate with Indonesian peers and legal practitioners to gain experience within the legal profession, and to develop their professional person skills, while building their networks within the Indonesian legal fraternity.

The program runs twice a year. In the summer academy pause, the program runs from early January to mid-February for a six-week intensive period (Monday to Friday each calendar week). Over winter, the program is offered across a twelve-week period from belatedly June until late September. The first three weeks of this program is offered intensively (Mon-Friday) and following this, students complete their professional person placement (internship) 1-two days per calendar week, alongside their regular academy studies.

The program is designed to cater for students with no existing Indonesian language skills. Candidates with existing language skills will, however, exist welcome. All placements provide an English-language working environment.

Indonesia's legal organisation is characterised by complexity and a remarkable level of pluralism. Aims

The aims of the LPP are to:

  1. Provide students with a applied learning feel with a Host Organisation (or individual practitioner) in the Indonesian legal surroundings; and
  2. To develop student'southward cognition of Indonesian constabulary and legal practices, and the awarding of these legal concepts and practices within Indonesia'south legal sector;
  3. To enhance bilateral understanding through the cosmos of new partnerships between Australian and Indonesian counterparts, and serve as a medium for the substitution of ideas in the field of law.

Construction

The structure of this program is as follows:

  • 40 hours of intensive Indonesian linguistic communication classes at Atma Jaya University, designed to give participants basic Indonesian language capacity;
  • 30 hours of seminars, tutorials and industry example studies led by experts and practitioners from Indonesian legal organisations and manufacture; and
  • A 160 hour supervised practicum placement designed to give participants an English-speaking professional person experience inside an Indonesian or international organisation (or with an individual practitioner) operating within Indonesia's legal manufacture.

Supervision

An Bookish Program Officeholder (APO) is assigned for the duration of the APP to oversee all aspects of the programme, including the supervision of its bookish content. The APO also acts as the primary source of guidance and advice for students. The APO is available for student consultations on a regular schedule or by engagement. Since its' inception in 2018, the position of the Bookish Program Officeholder has been held by Dr Petra Mahy, Dr Selvie Sinaga, and Ms Patriani Paramita Mulia. Participating students are too allocated a workplace mentor at their practicum host organisation who volition supervise a student's work within the organization for the elapsing of the student's practicum placement. Participants must endeavour to regularly run across with their workplace mentor (as a guide, approximately once a week during the winter plan or three times a calendar week during the summer programme) throughout the placement. Over the course of the program, the APO should exist invited to attend at least ii meetings between the educatee and their host arrangement mentor.

All ACICIS programs operate under the direction of the ACICIS Resident Director, Dr Adrian Budiman, assisted by administrative staff in both Australia and Indonesia. Virtual Internship Notes

  • Applicants should be aware that they are applying for the plan, not a specific placement. Participants must therefore have that they may not exist placed in their desired selection. In addition, all ACICIS placements with organisations depend entirely on the goodwill and preparedness of such organisations to host participants. Such organisations retain the right to withdraw from the program or vary the number of participants they host at any stage. Therefore, while acting in good faith in preparing participants for placements, ACICIScannotguarantee any specific internship site and participants must accept this need for flexibility as a condition of participation in the Police force Professional person Practicum.
  • Program participants are required to accept access to a personal laptop or calculator, and a reliable cyberspace connectedness throughout the elapsing of the program.
  • Participants are encouraged to accept a work-space set up with their homes, so that they are able to attend all components of the program without distraction. A comfortable infinite with suitable lighting is recommended.
  • Participants will be conducting meetings via Zoom and other online learning platforms and are required to dress and groom themselves as they unremarkably would for university or an in-person professional placement.
