Dragon Chan makes his debut in Super Punch-Out!! as the second opponent. During the opening of the fight against him, Asian music is played before the announcer introduces Dragon Chan. He sometimes jumps to a corner, then another, and then does a swinging kick at his opponent's face, which knocks down his opponent with one-hit. To avoid this, players must use the duck button to duck and dodge Dragon Chan's kick. In the rematches, he sometimes delays his kick and sometimes kicks twice in a row.

In the SNES version of Super Punch-Out!!, he now wears dark blue pants, a red belt, and blue boxing gloves. His swinging kick is slightly faster than before. He also regains strength through meditation when instructed by his cornerman. He has two types of punches: normal jabs and slap punches to the body. If you counter the slap punch with a jab to the face, he will be stunned. If you counter his jab with a hook you can also stun him. During his flying kick, he he hops from back left to back right, then front left, then kicks, unlike in his previous appearance where he lands on the ground for the third hop. His coach does not speak English, instead speaking Chinese. When instructed by his cornerman, Dragon Chan throws three kicks at his opponent, which don't cause one knock downs to his opponent like his flying kick does. He is a palette swap of Heike Kagero.

Moves:

  • Jab: Dragon Chan throws a jab. Cannot be low punched.
  • Body Blow: A slap punch to the body. Cannot be ducked or low blocked.
  • Flying Kick: Dragon Chan jumps to the the player's right, then to the left, then does a wide kick. This kick will result in the player being instantly knocked down. This must be ducked.
  • Triple Kick: When the cornerman says something in Chinese, Dragon Chan jumps and does a kick three times from a random side. Dodge to the opposite side he is on.
  • Meditate: When the cornerman says something different, Dragon Chan meditates to recover some of his health. This can be interrupted by punching him.

Dizzy Knockdown: Dragon Chan moves to the left, then to the right, then to the center. Punch him when he is centered.

Quotes [ ]

Super Punch-Out!! (SNES):

  • "You will find yourself face down... when you wake up." (first match)
  • "Same results every time. The world of fighting is a harsh one, isn't it?" (rematch)
  • "When I woke up... It was me lying on the mat." (endgame)
  • "気沈丹田法!" (Qì chén dāntián fǎ!, something along the lines of "Focus your chi!") (Chan's corner man)
  • "WHA?!" (when hit with a KO punch)
  • "Huyiaw..." (when knocked down)

Rule Infractions [ ]

As per the unified rules of boxing established by the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combat Sports:

  • Chan breaks 3 rules in regards to him kicking:
    • His kicking attack counts as a jumping attack, which is illegal in boxing.
    • Kicking attacks are not allowed in boxing.
    • Dragon Chan jumps off the ropes to perform the attack, which is also an illegal maneuver. The ropes are only there to keep the boxer from falling out of the arena.
  • Instead of boxing shorts, he wears gi pants.
    • Another problem with these pants is that they go below his knees which isn't allowed in boxing as it makes it harder for the referee to determine low blows.
  • Instead of boxing boots or boxing shoes, he wears slippers.
  • His belt is a non-regulation accessory and is therefore illegal, even if it does provide a line of demarcation for the waist.

Dragon Chan has 7 infractions.

Trivia [ ]

  • Dragon Chan is the only fighter from the arcade version of Super Punch-Out!! who did not appear in Punch-Out!! (Wii).
  • He and Heike Kagero are the only palette swaps which don't share voices.
  • Dragon's theme is based on the theme for Big Trouble in Little China.
    • Dragon's theme for his arcade appearance, however, is based on the theme for Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon.
  • In addition to drawing inspirations from Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, Dragon Chan could also be an allusion to Bruceploitation, an exploitation film subgenre that attempted to cash in on Lee's popularity after his death in 1973.
